Dora captures beautiful candid shots during in-home settings to create photos – and memories – that will last a lifetime. I caught up with Dora to ask her how she came to live in Dubai with her family, and find out what it is about taking pictures of families and children that inspires her.
P.s. don’t forget to read to the end to find out about the special Mother’s Day competition with Dora D. Photography, and a special 30% discount through the month of March for The Son And The Moon readers!
Tell us about yourself and how you came to live in Dubai?
Hi everyone! I’m Dora, I was born in Italy, in the rainy but beautiful city of Turin, just two hours from Milan. I have lived in Turin for the first 30 years of my life and I worked as a secretary for several companies, then I decided to leave my city, with my husband, because we have always loved to travel around the world. We had the need to change our life and follow our dreams.
Photography has always been my dream work but I’ve never thought it would be my real work. We moved to Malta, the small island in the Mediterranean Sea, and there while pregnant, I decided I would like to try and build my own photography business. We lived in Malta for 3 years, where I worked as a family and child photographer. Two years ago we visited Dubai for a holiday, but fell in love with this city, so we decided that it will be our new home and here we are! It took a long time to prepare everything, but we moved here seven months ago, finally!
What inspired you to become a photographer?
I remember that, as a child, I’ve always loved to look at pictures. My mother found me many times closed in my room with all our family pictures around me. I think I’ve always known the price of a photograph, the value of a photograph, since I was young. Then, growing up I’ve loved to capture our travels around the world to remember those faces, those places, our feelings. During my pregnancy, all the pictures of bumps and children simply burst into my life and, at that time, I understood what my specialty will be. I’ve always loved children, I’ve always known that, one day, I would love to be a mother and the magic of pregnancy and of birth has been my incentive to trust in photography as a work, not just a passion.
What is it that you love about taking pictures of families?
I love to capture the interaction among parents and children, among siblings. I like to be a silent witness, to enter their home and create their memories just capturing their everyday life, their special moment, things they like, their very own way of being together, of spending time together, of playing together. Those special looks, smiles, I like to capture love.
Finally, if you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Oh absolutely travelling in space and time. Just think “I would like to go there” and being “there” in two minutes. I would be sure to travel around the world that way! It would be nice, right?
